The Google connectors link TaxGPT Cowork to your Google Workspace or Gmail account. Once they're connected, Cowork can find client documents in Google Drive, review client emails in Gmail and check meetings in Google Calendar. You don't have to download, upload or copy anything yourself.
Cowork uses the connectors for the step in front of it and nothing more. It never sends an email or takes any other outside action without your explicit approval.
Connector | What TaxGPT Cowork can do with it |
Google Drive | Read and download files from your Google Drive, such as W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, prior-year returns and bank statements |
Gmail | Read and search your inbox, summarize messages, find client tax questions and draft replies for you to review |
Google Calendar | Read events and meetings from your Google calendars |
How to connect Gmail, Google Drive or Google Calendar
You don't have to set anything up ahead of time. Cowork asks for a connector when it needs one.
1. Ask for something that needs Google, for example "Pull the Hall family's 2025 1099s from Google Drive."
2. Cowork explains why it needs the connector and shows a Connect to Google Drive card in the chat. (It shows a Gmail or Google Calendar card instead if the task needs one of those.)
3. Click Connect, then sign in to the Google account that holds your client files.
4. When Google asks you to allow access, check the permissions and click Allow.
5. You're back in Cowork and the task continues. You don't need to start over.
Each Google app connects on its own, so connecting Drive doesn't connect Gmail or Calendar. Cowork asks for each one the first time a task needs it.
> Tip: You can also connect ahead of time from Settings → Connectors in TaxGPT Cowork.
What to ask: example prompts for tax professionals
Ask in plain language and name the client, tax year and app when they matter.
Google Drive
- "Find the 2025 W-2s and 1099s in the Johnson Client Files folder in Google Drive and extract them to a summary."
- "Download the Smith LLC K-1 packages from Drive and prepare a K-1 entry package."
- "Get last year's return PDF from Drive and build a tax planning memo."
Gmail
- "Triage my inbox for the last 7 days and draft replies to any unanswered client tax questions."
- "Did I already reply to Maria Lopez about her estimated payments?"
- "Find the email from the Patel family with their brokerage statement and pull out the attachment."
Google Calendar
- "What client meetings do I have this week?"
- "List my meetings tomorrow and summarize the open items for each client from my email."
Combining connectors
- "Check my calendar for today's client meetings, then find each client's latest documents in Google Drive."
How Cowork uses the connectors
- Connectors come first. If a connector can do a step, Cowork uses it instead of opening Gmail or Drive in a browser. That's faster and more reliable. The browser or desktop is used only as a fallback.
- It asks once. Cowork asks for each connector only once per conversation. If you decline, it uses a fallback, such as asking you to upload the files, and doesn't ask again.
- Documents are read, not guessed. Files downloaded from Drive or Gmail are read in full, and every value is pulled exactly as it appears. Anything Cowork enters or calculates traces back to a document it read.
- You can see the plan. Cowork shows a to-do list of the steps it will take, including which connector each step uses.
Approvals and safety
Cowork treats the following as approval-required. It prepares everything, shows you exactly what will happen, then waits for a clear "yes" to that specific action:
- Sending an email or reply to a client
- Changing records in an outside system
- Filing, signing, payments and any other irreversible action
Approving the overall plan or saying "continue" doesn't count as approval to send. For example, when Cowork triages your inbox, every reply it drafts is for your review only. Nothing goes to a client until you approve it.
Privacy
- TaxGPT Cowork reaches your Google data only through the connectors you approve, and only for the task you assign.
- Don't put Social Security numbers or other personal identifiers in your prompts. Refer to clients by name or client code.
- Cowork doesn't repeat SSNs or full account numbers in its summaries or messages.
- Read the TaxGPT Privacy Notice.
How to disconnect a Google connector

Troubleshooting
Problem | What to do |
Sign-in fails, or a connector stopped working after it worked before. | Disconnect the connector, then connect it again. |
The Connect card doesn't appear, or the task stalls after you sign in. | Tell Cowork you've finished signing in. It reloads the connector and continues. |
Cowork can't find a file you know is in Drive. | Make sure you connected the Google account that owns or can see the file. Give the folder name or the exact file name. |
Your firm's Google Workspace blocks the connection. | Ask your Workspace admin to allow TaxGPT Cowork access. |
Cowork opened a browser instead of using the connector. | Ask again and say "use the Google Drive connector" (or Gmail, or Google Calendar). |
You use Outlook or OneDrive instead. | Cowork also has Outlook, Outlook Calendar and OneDrive connectors. Name the app you use in your request. |
